The Island of Tiree is the most westerly of the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The low-lying island Tiriodh, in Gaelic, translates to ‘Land of Corn’, or possibly ‘Tir-I’, the land or granary of Iona. With an economy based on the production of grain since ancient times, the island has an extensive history of distillation, both legal and illegal, and at one time supplied a number of the neighbouring islands. The last legal still was extinguished in the 1800s.
Tiree Whisky Company Ltd was established in 2012 to promote and preserve the island’s whisky heritage and to revive distilling on the island.
Crafted by mashing in a small oak mash tun and distilled twice in flame-fired traditional copper pot stills, this release of Isle of Tiree Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been matured in a Single ex-Bourbon Quarter Cask at the Isle of Tiree Distillery on Tiree’s South-western shore.
