OUR HISTORY

April 2012 - Tiree Whisky Company Ltd is founded by Ian Smith & Alain Campbell

May 2016 - Tiree Whisky Company release their first independent bottling, The Cairnsmuir, named after an iron screw steamer that went aground off Tiree in 1886. The Cairnsmuir is a 19 Year Old Highland Single Malt, released in two editions: 75 Collectors' Edition bottled at 55.3% and 155 standard edition bottled at 46%.

July 2017 - Tyree Gin is launched. Initially produced off-island using local botanicals, profits from this first batch went towards the refurbishment of Bernard D Smith & Son's workshop in West Hynish, which is now the Isle of Tiree Distillery.

HMRC Approval/ Planning Approval?

November 2018 - The first legal still on the Isle of Tiree since the early 1800s is installed and commissioned. Although the last legal still on the island was used to produce whisky, this still was solely for the production of gin.

February 2019 - The first batch of Tyree Gin from the Tiree Distillery is produced.

AWARDS

August 2020 - The Distillery increases its offering with Hebridean Pink Gin

Full Malt approval

November 2020 or December - The first mash of the future Isle of Tiree Single Malt Scotch Whisky is completed

June 2021 - Distillery Shop and Visitor Centre opens.

July 2021 - As the wait for the First Release begins, we team up with Tiree Music Festival to release our second independent bottling, TMF10. A 10 Year Old Speyside Single Malt which was casked just before the first ever TMF and bottled ahead of the 10th festival.

Summer Edition and Winter Edition launched.

November 2023 - Pre-orders for our First Release of Single Malt Scotch Whisky go live, selling out in around 2 hours.

January 2025 - The remaining bottles from the First Release become available, this time selling out in 12 minutes.

January 2025 - The First Release is bottled and distributed to all who purchased. Tiree is once again producing whisky.
